Thursday's a Fine Day

Howdy do folks!

We had a grand Thursday today! It all started out with a quick lesson in summarizing; we've done summarizing before, but it's nice to go over this concept as we'll be using summarizing in school and in life (like telling people what Wreck-It Ralph is all about). We discussed how summarizing means taking all the important details of a story or chapter and putting it in one's words. We also discussed how summaries are short and sweet, and not long and drawn out.

Afterwards we had P.E. with Mr. Wood. We had the choice of either playing Lightning, practicing our free throws, or participating in a bona fide basketball game. P.E. then transitioned into recess. It was great that the rain let up today, so that we could have recess outside! Yay!

Heading back from recess, we jumped into math and talked about comparing fractions using fraction tile pieces. Tomorrow we're going to spend a portion of our math time to learn how to cross multiply, when we don't have math tiles, in order to compare fractions.

After math, we filled out our assignment notebooks, and worked on our biographies or any unfinished assignments that we had.

When we came back from lunch, we ventured through the library and took a look at all of the 5th grade science fair projects. We had Read To Self right before recess, and when we came back from it, we had a science review in preparation for our science assessment tomorrow! We then had time near the end of the day for some freewrites:

And that's Thursday for ya! Cheers!
