A Prime Number has only two factors: 1and itself.

11 is a prime number because the only factors for 11 are 1 and 11

1x11=11

The prime numbers between 2 and 100 are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89 and 97.

A composite number has more factors other than to one and itself.

Example: 

8 is a composite number because the factor for 8 are 1, 8, 2, 4

1x8=8
2x4=8

44 is a composite number because the factor of 44 are 1, 44, 2, 22, 4, 11

1x44=44
2x22=44
4x11=44
