T.G.I.F!

Hi there folks! Today was a super assessment day! We started the day off going over the story Akiak and reviewing any key moments in the story. The students then took a reading comprehension test for Akiak. Afterwards, the students took this week's spelling test.

After recess, there was a math inventory assessment the students took. I went over how to take the test before handing it out; I reassured the students that it would not be graded since there would be a bunch of questions they might not have the answer to. These "challenge" questions stem from math concepts that will be taught in the near future. I also explained that the inventory would give me a better picture as to how I could better support them in their learning.

In the afternoon, students got a chance to learn more about California's geographical features during Social Studies. We also went over vocabulary in the chapter and created tree maps:

Throughout the day, students had a chance to work on freewrites and interview paragraphs that they did not finish during the week. Here are some freewrites:

They're freewrites are so great! There was clamoring to hear more of each others' work when a few students read their own freewrite to the class!

Here are a few more of those fantastic inerview paragraphs:

Finally, near the end of the day, our V.I.P of the week, Zach, got a chance recite his spiel about himself. Needless to say, the class was very interested in speech, and Zach fielded a bunch of questions from his peers at the end.

Well, that's Friday in a nutshell for you! I told everyone that this weekend is going to have some nice breezy weather, so they should bring out their kites and fly 'em around! Or go to the beach! I'm heading to Monterey myself for the Gentlemen of the Road music festival! It's going to be nice weather, good company, great music, and delicious eats coming my way this Saturday and Sunday; I wish you folks the same! Cheers!
