Being that it's Monday and all, we got into the swing of things!
We started the day off with a free write: What did you do over the break? Explain.
Here's a brave soul that stepped up to read what she wrote:
After freewrites, we did a practice spelling test; this week's spelling list consists of words that have the /ǒǒ/ and the /ōō/ sounds. After the practice spelling test, we went over our lesson objectives for reading comprehensions: Being able to evaluate what we read in order to make inferences. We started reading the first half of Tanya's Reunion, a story about a girl coming to a family reunion with her grandma.
We also did a tree map of vocabulary words that pertain to the story; I did the first few words with the students, and then the students defined the rest of the vocab words on their own:
After recess, we started a new topic in math; this topic will deal with multiplication with one- digit numbers. Our first lesson in the topic dealt with multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100. We even got a chance to play a game that deals with this concept!
After math, we filled out our assignment notebooks and discussed how to combine our own experiences and the information we get from the stories that we read to make inferences. We then made some inferences from a short story that we read!
Right before lunch, we got to listen to V.I.P. Sydney Dunne tell us a little about herself!
After lunch, we did some Read to Self, and then started our science lesson on decomposers! Well, actually, we spent most of the afternoon talking about decomposers, and how they are important to our ecosystems!

That's Monday for you folks! Get down with it!
