Midweek Getdown: October Break Edition!

Hello ladies and gents, boys and girls, people of all ages!! I Just wanted to let you know what I've been up to during my break so far...

...Well, I've been doing a whole lot o' nothing! It's been a very relaxing, lazy break thus far, and I intend to keep it this way! Been trying to do some grading:

I like to have a little hot sauce with my grading!
It has been a long and arduous process though, but I do intend to finish it all up tomorrow! I also hope to be in my class tomorrow for a few hours to spruce the room up and look over the lesson plans that the all of the forth grade teachers have created for next week!

I've had time to read (yay!), so I reread (for the bazillionth time) The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a story that contains young adult themes (i.e. not for kids!), which I first read when I was in high school. I related to it then, and on some level, I still do. It's a very powerful book that all teens should check out, but that's my humble opinion.

Anyways, the reason for me rereading the book is because the powers that be in Hollywood decided to turn it into movie!

Molly (my fiancée) and I saw it on Sunday; she loved it and thought it was faithful to the book. I thought it was pretty good too, but that that it should've had more from the book. Ah well.

Anyways, seeing Emma Watson on screen spurred me to reread the Harry Potter series again! This will be my third time going through the series in it's entirety! I'm currently almost done with the first book...

...And I'll be delving into The Chamber of Secrets pretty soon! If you haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, I suggest you do so! I was a non-believer once too, but after reading The Prisoner of Azkaban in one of my college classes, I was hooked!  Give Harry Potter a try!

Also, for all you HP fans out there, give pottermore.com a look into! It's a website designed by J.K. Rowling herself, and it gives you more backstory and info to the books! Once I was on the website, and took a few "tests," I got sorted into the Hufflepuff house!

"I'm J.K. Rowling! Click on my photo for Pottermore!"
Ever since a bunch of my students have told me the greatness of Minecraft (you know who you are!), I've been meaning to get it. Well, since there's a nice long break, I decided to purchase the game and have a go at it!

I was confused as to how to play the game at first, but now I'm getting the hang of it and I'm hooked! Gotta watch out for those Creepers though! More resources!!!

My fiancée and I talked about the hobbies and toys that we were into when we were kids; I was really into X-Men toys:

This was my first X-Men toy! A Wolverine!

And Molly was big on American girl dolls (like a few of my students)!

This Samantha doll was the one that Molly had!

Also, I've been watching this "old" sitcom (one of my all-time favorites) because I received the box set as a gift recently:

I also watched the first two movies of this "very old" trilogy:

And the third movie (my favorite one) from this "very very old" movie series:

I guess I'm feeling nostalgic! That's pretty much the week for me  so far! Not too bad wouldn't you say? I'm going to play Pokemon TCG with my buddies later on today in preparation for the regional tournament that will be held in San Jose in a couple of weeks, and on Friday I'm heading to San Francisco, staying there for the weekend, and listening to some great music at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival! Whoot!

I hope all of you are having an awesome break! Minecraft is beckoning me to play it, so I shall! See you all on Monday, and cheers!

  1. Hey Mr.Nguyen, I'm a student from Los Alamitos in fifth grade. I think you're a pretty awesome teacher. Would you mind checking out my blog?
