Sunny Monday!

Howdy do folks!

Today was a grand Monday if I do say so myself! We started out the day with a freewrite; students either wrote about their weekend or created a story of their own. Here are a few:

Samantha:

After our freewrites we discussed the schedule and objectives for the day. We then took a spelling practice test, and then started our vocab blinds:

After recess, we did a bit o' math; we discussed how to estimate to see if our answers were reasonable. Here are some of the students' explaination of how to estimate, as well as a few word problems they made on their own:

Aidan:

Izzy V.:

After math, we filled out our assignment notebook, and then read a"story before the story" called Go West which had our vocab words embedded into the story. Following that story we did high structured practice that involved creating a half flow map to illustrate makign generalizations using details from the text:

Tomorrow we're most likely going to make (with partners) flow map charts dealing with generalizations.

After lunch we did some Read to Self, and explored the world of cinquain poems. We discussed what cinquains were and how we use them to express our thoughts, feelings, emotions on a subject. We also looked at a few examples and were guided as to how to write one. We made a few quick cinquains with some assistance, and tomorrow we're going to make one on our own:

Near the end of the day, we reviewed Lesson 1 of our Science chapter on ecosystems. We did a quick practice quiz and played a game that tested our knowledge on this lesson.

That's Monday for you folks! Cheers!
