Friday, Friday, Friday!

Happy Friday ladies and gents!

Most of the morning was filled with assessments; there was the spelling test, two assessments on Finding the Titanic (one being an AR quiz), an assessment on text features, and one on syllabication. The students were troopers about it though! Throughout the morning we did get a chance to sprinkle in some freewriting, and Read to Self!

After recess, we went over our math homework and got into some subtracting with zeros!

Here's a video I through was pretty hilarious. It's about subtracting in general!

When we got back from lunch, I discussed with each student their AR goals; the student and I decided on a goal that was slightly challenging , but attainable for him/her. We then got into the thick of things with Social Studies. It was a very powerful lesson as we discussed the cultures that make up California, and why people decide to immigrate to California, and to extrapolate, to the United States. Maybe you can discuss with your child why you or your ancestry decided to head to the United States. Each student's culture, ancestry, and reasons for immigrating to the U.S. were great topics for discussion, one that we had to cut short due to time. Hopefully next week we can open up this discussion again! By the way, there will be an assessment on the first chapter of our Social Studies curriculum next week! Here are some things we conversed about in our discussion:

Near the end of the day, we celebrated Lauren and Brianna's birthday, and then we got a chance to hear Ashvin speak about his experiences!

That about does it folks! I hope you all have a nice weekend!
