In a blink of an eye, today came and went! We started out the day with a free write. I asked the students what the word "hero"meant and who was a hero in their life.
Students then paired up and utilized Read With Someone to read By the Shores of Silver Lake. Students took turns reading a portion of the story, and afterwards, generated a question to ask their partner. After a large section of the story was read, the partners would then note important details in the story and write it down on their brace map.
After recess, we came back and had a long discussion about 9/11 and Patriot's Day. Students had a lot of questions after I showed them a quick-, child-suitable-, video about the subject. I did my best to answer the questions in a way that was appropriate and thoughtful. If you need a resource for explaining the details of the tragic event in an appropriate manner for children, Nickelodeon News is pretty good at breaking the details down in a suitable manner. If you do have your child watch the episode, please watch it with them.
We then delved into math, correcting yesterday's homework, and then collaborated with a partner to do some review in preparation for tomorrow's math assessment. When we got back from lunch, we did Read to Self, and then got back to the math review. By the time we had finished correcting the math review, it was almost time to go home! Yikes!
Anyways, that's Tuesday in a nutshell for you! Get ready for a romping-good Wednesday! Cheers!
