We started the day out with a freewrite; students had a choice of either writing about their long weekend or the time they entered the "forbidden" forest. Here are a few samples:

We then created a tree map, looking for text features when reading:
After Recess, we did a long review on Estimating Sums and Differences (math topic 2-4). We then worked on solving problems that had extra or missing information (math topic 2-5).
