Here's what a couple of students came up with:
After the freewrite, we got right into the thick of things by reading Tomás and the Library Lady. Throughout the story we used our 21st century skills of collaborating and communicating by doing think, pair, share with a partner. We listening actively and were very engaged. We were then able to share out our partner's answer for the rest of the class to hear. After reading, we created a foldable and began looking for important details in the beginning, middle, and end of the story:
After recess, we used multiplication facts to find division facts! Whoot!

After lunch some of us did some Read To Self, while others worked on their unfinished work (e.g California symbols, science mini-poster, etc.). We then delved into science and got a deeper understanding of what food webs are through more think, pair, shares. We also created a tree map in our science notebooks that included and example of a food web.
