Howdy folks!
Today was a blustery Monday indeed! Speaking of blustery, I looked at my weather app this morning, and it's going to in the high 60's and low 70's everyday this week; make sure your child brings a light jacket/sweater to school! There's also a cold bug being passed around, so sometime this week, we're going to be talking about keeping our immune system healthy and going strong! In the meantime, friends Timon and Pumbaa, are very willing to drop some pearls on wisdom on how to stay healthy when there's the cold coming around:
We started the day off with a freewrite; here are some:

Sydney:
Nate:
Zach:
Izzy:
Megan:
After our freewrites we got into English/Language Arts; we focused on author's viewpoint as well as predicting and inferring--three concepts that we will be concentrating on this week. We read aloud Around the World in 20 Days, which was an account of two men who circled the globe on a hot air balloon. When listening to the story, we were able to make inferences, come up with predictions, and understand the author's viewpoint through questioning, and think, pair, share. Tomorrow, we'll be starting our main selection, Grandfather's Journey. Before recess, we took our spelling pre-test.
After recess, we learned about and utilized the commutative property of multiplication, the zero property of multiplication, and the identity property of multiplication .
After math, we started to edit our expository writing rough drafts. We did three rounds of editing; first we edited our own papers, then we passed our papers to a peer, so that he/she edited our paper while we edited his/her paper. We then turned in our rough draft so that I could edit it.
After lunch we continued to edit, did Read to Self, and listened to The Witches by Roald Dahl. Near the end of the day, we learned some more facts about California and used these facts to begin writing a paragraph about California.
That's Monday for you folks! Cheers!
Love your blog. Thanks so much!
